I work for the City of Boston. I am a relatively new worker and I don’t have a lot of time saved up. Over the last two years, between funerals and illness nearly all of my paid leave was used up when I became pregnant. I had to go back to work 7 days after I gave birth to my beautiful daughter. I simply could not afford to take for time off work without pay or risk eviction. Mothers are forced to make terrible choices. Paid leave would allow me to and many mothers to stay with their infants when they are most needed.
